    cv ditePetr Dite ( 1941) is Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology of Department Internal Medicine-Gastroenterology Masaryk University Brno and Ostrava Medical Faculty, University Ostrava. He received his MD from Charles University Hradec Králové Czech Republic in 1966. He had his training in Dept. of Clinical Biochemistry University Hospital Hradec Králové , Sahlgrenska University Hospital Gotenburg – Gastrolaboratory and in Medical Department Univ. Hospital Hradec Králové. In l990 he moved to Brno as a Head of Department of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.

    Professor Dite has been a President of Czech Society of Gastroenterology, Member of WGO Committee for Education,Member of Generaly Assembly of UEGF. Recently he is a member of EUMS committee. Member of the Board of European Pancreatic Club and he is a President of European Association for Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Nutrition ( EAGEN).

    His main clinical and researche acivities are focus on pancreatic disease, pancreato-biliary endoscopy ,chronic inflammation and cancerogenesis, gastrooncology. Professor Dite is a member of editorial board of Digestive Disease and Hepatogastroenterogy.

    cv hammerHeinz Hammer is Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Medical University of Graz in Austria and Chief of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at Kastanienhof private hospital in Graz, Austria (www.kastanienhof.at). He received his MD from the University of Graz in 1985. He received training in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the University of Graz, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, USA (1987 – 1990) and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, USA (1994-1995). 

    Professor Hammer has been board member of the Austrian Society of Gastroenterology (OeGGH) and Chairman of the Austrian Working Group on Functional GI Disorders, secretary of the European Association for Gastroenterology and Endoscopy (EAGE) since 2000, delegate to the UEGF General Assembly 2005 – 2011, and member of the UEGF Educational Committee from 2008 – 2011.

    His main research interests are malabsorption and related diseases, intestinal perception and motility, intestinal microbiom and enteral nutrition . He is author or co-author of about 70 scientific articles in medical publications as well as multiple scientific communications to medical meetings and book chapters. He is honorary member of the Hungarian Society of Gastroenterology.

    cv brunoMarco J. Bruno (1963) is professor of Gastrointestinal Oncology and director of Gastroenterology & Endoscopy at the Erasmus Medical Centre in Rotterdam. He had his specialty training at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam under the supervision of professor Guido Tytgat. His clinical and research activities focus on gastrointestinal oncology, hepato-pancreato-biliary diseases and interventional endoscopy, including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS). He has a special interest in pancreatic diseases. He also serves as an international editorial board member of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Word Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He has been a speaker, chairman and organizer at numerous international symposia and congresses and contributed to various international live endoscopy workshops.     Peter Malfertheiner is Professor of Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Infectious Diseases at the Otto v. Guericke University of Magdeburg in Germany, an appointment he has held since 1995. He received his MD from the University of Bologna, Italy in 1975, and gained subsequent medical experience at the Regional Hospital of Bozen, Italy, and the University Hospital of Ulm, Germany, before becoming a Research Fellow at the Mayo Clinic GI Unit in Rochester, MN, USA. Professor Malfertheiner has been Chairman of the UEGF (2004) and President of the UEGW 2006 and of the Education Committee of the United European Gastroenterology Federation (UEGF). He is also the Editor ofDigestive Diseases, Associate Editor of the American Journal of Gastroenterology, and a member of the Editorial Boards of several other journals; the European Journal of GastroenterologyHelicobacterDigestive Surgery, and the International Journal of Pancreatology. His main research interests are Helicobacter pylori infection and related diseases, chronic inflammation and carcinogenesis, gastric cancer, hepatocellular cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), development of metaplasia in the esophagus, and pancreatitis.

    cv KrejsGuenter J. Krejs (1945) is Professor of Internal Medicine and Chief of the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Medical University in Graz, Austria. Hereceived his M.D. from the University of Vienna (1969), trained in internal medicine and gastroenterology in Zurich, Switzerland and from 1975 to 1986 was a faculty member (full professor after 1984) in the Department of Internal Medicine, University of Texas Health Science Center Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. In 1986 he took the chair in internal medicine at Karl-Franzens-University in Graz and served in that capacity until 2005.

    Professor Krejs was the President of the 11th World Congress of Gastroenterology in Vienna in 1998 (13000 participants) and served as Chairman of the Coordinating Council of UEGF preparing its foundation in 1991. He was president among other societies ofEAGEN (founding society of UEGF), the Austrian Society of Internal Medicine, the Austrian Society of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Bockus International Society of Gastroenterology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation. He serves on the Supreme Medical Council of the Republic of Austria.

    His research interests pertain to GI-hormones, neuroendocrine tumors, endoscopy, GERD and intestinal secretion.

    cv MilosavljevicTomica Milosavljević (1955) is Professor of Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at the Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, Gastroenterology and Hepatology Clinic, University of Belgrade. He graduated from the Belgrade Medical School in 1979 where he also finished his master degree studies in 1983 and PhD in 1988. He is a specialist of internal medicine with sub specialization of gastroenterology. Milosavljević finished professional specialization in Munich (Klinikum rechts der Isar), Amsterdam (Academic Medical Center) and London (St. Mark's Hospital). Since 2001 he was the assistant of managing director of Clinical Center of Serbia and the managing director of the gastroenterology clinic.     cv malageladaJuan Malagelada graduated from Barcelona Medical School in 1967. Soon after graduation, he emigrated to the United States on a Scholarship from the "Juan March" Foundation. In the United States, he completed his medical training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology, first in Boston (Tufts University Program) and from 1971 to 1974 at Mayo Clinic and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. In 1974, he was appointed Consultant in Gastroenterology at Mayo Clinic and achieved in 1981 the rank of Full Professor of Medicine of Mayo Medical School of the University of Minnesota. In 1983, he was appointed Director of Mayo GI Training Program sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. In 1987, he returned to his native Barcelona, Spain, where he is presently Head of the Department of Digestive Diseases and Professor of Digestive Diseases of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. As a researcher, he has focused on the physiology and pathophysiology of the digestive tract, chiefly gut motility and sensitivity, acid-peptic disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, and pancreatic pathology. He is author or co-author of about 600 scientific articles in medical publications as well as multiple scientific communications to medical meetings. He has received several international awards including the Max Siurala Award, the Ewald Prize, the McKenna Lecture, the Torsoli Prize, and the Janssen Award for Lifetime Achievement in Digestive Diseases. His teaching activities have included Lectures and Visiting Professorships in different Universities and Medical Institutions worldwide. He is a member of the Board of several medical societies as well as scientific European and American Journals.     cv TackProfessor Jan Tack is currently a Head of Clinic in the Department of Gastroenterology, a Professor in Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Pathophysiology at the University of Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, and a principal researcher in TARGDI (the Translational Research Center for Gastrointestinal Disorders at the University of Leuven). He is in charge of a research group which comprises 6 postdoctoral researchers, 11 doctoral research fellows and 7 research technicians. 

    He graduated summa cum laude in 1987 from the University of Leuven and specialized in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the same institution. A research fellow at the Department of Physiology at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA, from 1989 to 1990, he has been a research fellow at the Center for Gastroenterological Research at the University of Leuven since 1990. Professor Tack’s research lies in the field of neurogastroenterology and motility, and includes diverse topics such as the physiology and pharmacology of the enteric nervous system, GI hormones, intestinal inflammation and the pathophysiology of FD, GERD and IBS. He has published more than 390 articles and 40 book chapters on various aspects of scientific and clinical gastroenterology. 

    Professor Tack won several awards for Basic and Clinical Research in GI Science. Professor Tack is President of the Inernational Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, editor of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, and section editor for Gastroenterology. He has served as associate editor for Gut and Digestion and serves or has served as a member of the editorial board of Gastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of Internal Medicine and Bailliere’s Best Practice and Research in Clinical Gastroenterology.

  • Guido N.J. Tytgat Open or Close

    cv_tytgatGuido N.J. Tytgat (1937) gained his medical qualification at the University of Louvain in Belgium. Following this, he completed his post-graduate training in gastroenterology and a research fellowship with the Belgian Fund of Scientific Research. He is now a Professor Emeritus of Gastroenterology at the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and a Consultant in Gastroenterology at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam.
    The department he helped create at the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam is a leading training unit in gastroenterology and world-renowned for diagnostic imaging, therapeutic endoscopy, and basic and clinical research in inflammatory bowel disease, hepatic transport mechanisms, gallstone disease, and pancreatic diseases.
    Professor Tytgat is author or co-author of over 800 research publications and several book chapters, and serves on the editorial boards of several gastroenterology journals. He is currently associate editor of Gastroenterology and Editor-in-Chief of Bailliere’s Clinics in Gastroenterology. Professor Tytgat is also an Honorary Professor at the Shanghai Second Medical University, at the University of Isai, Romania, and the University of Antwerp, Belgium. He is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Gastroenterological Association, The Royal Dutch Academy of Science, and the British Society of Gastroenterology. He was President of the World Gastroenterology Organisation from 2002 – 2005.

  • Lars Lundell Open or Close

    Lars Lundell completed his medical studies and examinations at the University of Lund, Sweden. He presented his PD thesis “on gastric mucosal histamine and acid secretion” at the Institute of Physiology of the same university. His basic surgical training was done at the Central Hospital of Jönköping from where he then moved to the University of Gothenburg, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where he subsequently became a chairman of the section for upper GI surgical services.

    Lars Lundells current position is professor of surgery at the Department of Surgery, Gastrocentrum, Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden.

    During Lars Lundells academic carrier he has supervised more than 10 PhD thesis and he has had a number of important positions such as being the president of the EAGE, currently being boardmember of EAGE and previous chairman of the education committee of the UEGF and currently being independent member of the committee.

    The main research interests are pathophysiogical mechanisms involved in peptic ulcer disease, medical and surgical treatment of GERD and the pathogenesis of the same disease entity. Modern therapeutic approaches to cancer of the upper GI tract with particular emphasis on the esophagus and GI junction represent an important part of his research activities. Lars Lundell has contributed to the current international guidelines of management of hemorrhage from the upper GI tract.
